What do reviewed elite US law firms explicitly say they assess beyond grades?
The reviewed firms publish broader candidate factors alongside academics: work experience, judgment, interpersonal and client skills, motivation, commercial-mindedness, leadership and contribution to firm culture. None of this evidence establishes hidden weights.

Wachtell publishes academics, meaningful work experience, motivation and eagerness to contribute (SIG-208). Debevoise publishes ambition, intelligence, engagement, commercial-mindedness, excellent lawyering, ethics and client relationships (SIG-215). Cleary says it considers work experience, judgment, interpersonal skills and academic performance and does not rely primarily on a minimum GPA requirement (SIG-218). Weil's Fellowship considers academics, work and leadership experience, inclusivity, collaboration and mentorship (SIG-229). Paul Hastings' Fellowship publishes a broader fellowship-specific factor set (SIG-261).
